National Work Zone Awareness Week 2025

Work Zone Awareness Week (WZAW) has been successful in spreading awareness for work zone safety across the country because of participation from organizations and individuals just like you. Hundreds of companies and individuals reach out to ATSSA on social media each year using #NWZAW. Work Zone Awareness Week will be held April 21-25 and highlights the deadly dangers of inattention at highway work areas.
This year, the West Virginia Department of Transportation will be holding a press conference on Monday, April 21 at 10:30 AM in the middle of the State Capitol complex grounds. In addition, there is a remembrance ceremony at the West Virginia Division of Highways Fallen Worker Memorial located at the Interstate I-77 Williamstown Welcome Center at noon on Thursday, April 24. All are welcome to attend either event. In addition, the national weeklong commemoration also includes:
- Work Zone Safety Training Day - April 21
- WVDOT Press conference – 10:30AM, WV State Capitol complex
- NWZAW will start on April 21 with Work Zone Safety Training Day, which emphasizes the importance of laying the groundwork for safety through training of personnel. Companies were encouraged to pause during the workday for safety demonstrations, discussions about safety policies and other prevention steps.
- National kickoff event - April 22
- The NWZAW 2025 kickoff event will be hosted by the North Carolina Department of Transportation (NCDOT) at a public site in the state. More information will be posted as it is available.
- Go Orange Day - April 23
- All roadway safety professionals across the country are encouraged to wear orange to proudly show their support of work zone safety. NWZAW and Go Orange Day are especially important to the families of victims who have lost their lives in work zones.
Show your support on social media by posting orange pics and using the hashtags #NWZAW and #Orange4Safety. Find some photos here.
