APA Fall Meeting – Save the Date

The Asphalt Pavement Association of West Virginia (APAWV) is heading toward Beckley, West Virginia for their Fall Conference. This year the asphalt industry will be returning after nearly 10 years to The Resort at Glade Springs. This family-oriented event will take place October 10-13, 2024, and as always, provides entertainment and fun for all ages.
Tee off on one of the three local golf courses, the Cobb, Stonehaven, or Woodhaven, each offering challenges for golfers of all skill levels. Glade Springs is also home to sport shooting, disk golf, archery, hiking, tennis and many other outdoor activities. If you would like to venture off-property and get a little more adventurous, take a short trip out to the New River Gorge to explore the gorge, the bridge, and much more. Glade Springs also offers laser tag, bowling, basketball courts, pools, escape rooms and a movie theater all in its Leisure Center.
October is also a haunting time at Glade Springs. Come and celebrate their 14th “year of fear” with their Fright Nights haunted attraction. Meeting attendees will get a special treat on Saturday with an exclusive look at the haunted house, as well as other activities for all ages. To continue Saturdays fun, our Saturday night reception will be a Halloween theme part, members are encouraged to attend with their favorite costume.
Additional conference information and agenda will be available in future Highway/Heavy Bulletins and on www.asphaltwv.com.

Deanna, or Dee to her friends, has been a member of Mountaineer Contractor’s team for over 8 years. During her time, Dee has been primarily responsible for the day to day traffic control operations of their various paving projects. Dee did not come into the construction industry through traditional means. In her past life, while working as a bartender and cook, she had a regular customer that worked construction. While discussing a career that provided the benefits and retirement she was looking for, he recommended Dee join her local Labor Union.
“And the rest is history as they say. There is no time like the present to try a new career path in the construction industry. Whether you are attending college, vocational school or looking for a change in your current career, there is plenty of room for growth and opportunity in construction,” Dee said.
